At Astride Ahead Therapeutics Occupational Therapy, we specialize in pediatric occupational therapy to support children who are experiencing difficulties in areas like motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and daily routines. It can benefit kids with and without formal diagnoses (like autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, etc.). Our licensed therapists aim to help children gain independence and improve their ability to perform daily activities—physically, emotionally, and socially.
Primitive reflexes are automatic movements that emerge in infancy. These should be naturally inhibited or integrated as the brain matures. If they remain active beyond infancy, they can interfere with development. When these reflexes stay dormant, they will begin to affect the way a child processes their environment and responds to it. We typically see these responses by the way a child reactions emotionally (behavior) and moves (physically).
Did you know that a horse's pelvis mimics the exact movement of a human pelvis at a walk?? Hippotherapy is a specialized treatment that uses horse movement as a therapeutic tool to support a child’s occupational therapy goals. It’s not horseback riding lessons—instead, it's a controlled, evidence-informed therapy facilitated by a licensed occupational therapist with training in hippotherapy. Movement from the horse provides sensory and motor input that can improve balance, coordination, strength, and overall function.
